Small business owners can learn how to generate free publicity, without paying for a publicist or PR person, at a 90-minute presentation on Wednesday, Oct. 17, right here at Zing Boutique.
Publicity expert Joan Stewart– who has an international following of business owners via her free electronic newsletter, her blog and live training– will present “How to Generate Thousands of Dollars in Free Publicity for Your Small Business” from 8 to 9:30 a.m. She will explain how small business owners can identify story ideas about their own businesses, from fun features to more serious stories, such as how businesses are surviving in a tough economy.
“Local newspapers, magazines, TV stations, radio stations, Patch.com and Yelp.com provide opportunities galore for business owners to generate thousands of dollars in free publicity,” says Stewart
. “But most business owners don’t have a clue what the media want, whom to call, or how to pitch a story.”
Stewart, a former newspaper editor, will explain how to pitch local print media such as the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Ozaukee Press, the Grafton News-Messenger, the Business Journal of Greater Milwaukee and Milwaukee Magazine, as well as Patch.com, the online news site for Port Washington-Saukville. She will explain the kinds of stories local TV stations want and how to pitch the assignment editors. She’ll also discuss why businesses need to be on Yelp.com, the local site that features user reviews and recommendations, and how to respond to less-than-favorable reviews.
